Importing spaces

You can import a space and the pages that it contains. Importing is a way of creating a space that is already populated with pages and configured widgets.

Before you begin

You must have exported a space. If the space came from a previous version of the product, the import process migrates the space as it imports it.

About this task

When you import an exported space, a new space is created that is based on the information contained in the exported space. Because it is a new space, you are its owner and you have all of the normal capabilities that a space owner has. These capabilities include transferring ownership to someone else, modifying its pages, and adding or deleting widgets.

The new space uses the same viewer and editor lists as the exported space used to create the import file. If the environment that contained the exported space shares the same user registry as the current environment, these users have the same capabilities in the imported space.

Important: The Business Space component of the product can be configured so that general users cannot import spaces. If this is the case, you must log in using a superuser ID to import a space.

Procedure

  1. In the banner, click Manage Spaces. The Space Manager opens.
  2. Click Import Space. The Import Space window opens.
  3. If you are importing a space created in version 7.0 or later, browse to the location of the compressed space and select the .zip file. If you are importing a version 6.x space or template file, browse to the location of the .DATA file for the space and select the file.
  4. Click OK. The Space Manager adds the imported space to the list of spaces.
