Resizing widgets in spaces

You can resize a widget in a space so that it occupies more or less space on your page.

About this task

Each widget has a height setting and a width setting.
  • The height setting is the height of the widget in pixels when you open the page or restore the widget from being minimized or maximized.
  • Except for the free form layout, the area in the page that the widget is in determines the width setting of the widget. The widget expands horizontally to occupy the entire width of the layout area.

For example, if you put a widget into the first column of a three column layout, the width of the first column determines the width of the widget. All of the widgets in that column have the same width setting. If you narrow or widen one of these widgets, you narrow or widen all of them. Narrowing or widening a widget also affects the widgets in the neighboring column. For example, if you widen the first column, the second column narrows by the same amount.

If the widget is in an area that occupies the entire width of the page (such as the single column layout or the top area of a T layout), the widget occupies the entire width of the page and you cannot resize it horizontally. If you want to resize one of these widgets, you must move the widget to area that does not occupy the entire width of the page. To get one of these areas in the location that you want, change the layout type or use the free form layout. In the free form layout, the width setting of the widget sets its width when you open the page or restore the widget from being minimized or maximized.

When you resize a widget, the new size of the widget is stored in your personalized settings. When you refresh your web browser or return to the page, the widget is at the size that you set. Other users see the widget at its default size.
Restriction: You can create a limited number of personalized settings. When you exceed your limit, your oldest setting is replaced with the most recent one. If the oldest personalized setting was, for example, the height of a widget, the widget reverts to its default height.

Procedure

  1. Hover over the boundary of the widget you want to resize. The cursor changes to a double arrow.
  2. Drag the boundary until the widget has the size that you want. If you make the widget shorter or narrower than the content in the widget, the widget displays scroll bars.
Restriction: If you are using product spaces on an iPad, you cannot drag the boundary of the widget. Instead, use the Resize option in the widget menu to change its height. You cannot change its width using an iPad. Additionally, the widget does not display scroll bars. You can access the non-visible content using normal two finger scrolling.
