Work baskets and business categories overview

Work baskets provide an alternative method for assigning work to people. You can use business categories to classify this work.

Work baskets

A work basket is a location where human-based work waits for action by a user. This action can be taken either directly on the work in the work basket, or the work can be transferred to another work basket so that actions can be taken there. Use work baskets to group available tasks into meaningful subsets. The grouping is based, for example, on responsibilities, organizational units, or themes.

Work baskets provide an alternate way of assigning tasks to people. Work baskets allow you to define people assignments for human tasks indirectly, and dynamically change the assignments at run time.

Distribution is supported for predefined distribution paths. This includes assigning and reassigning work by taking tasks from one work basket and moving them to another, often more specific work basket, either manually or automatically. To react to unforeseen situations, tasks can also be transferred between work baskets.

Business categories

You can use business categories to categorize human tasks in task lists and work baskets. These categories can be assigned to human tasks either statically (at modeling time), or dynamically (at run time), for example, using business rules. Rule-based categorization allows enhanced work management by dynamically creating new business categories and assigning them using dynamically modified business rules. If tasks are assigned to business categories, business users can use the category to search and filter tasks.
