Adding widgets to a page space

If you can edit a page, you can add widgets to the page to provide business information that you or other people can view and use to react appropriately.

Before you begin

You must be the page owner or an editor to add a widget to it.

About this task

You cannot add widgets directly to a space. You must add them to an existing page.

A page uses one layout of a set of predefined layouts to determine the positions of its widgets. A layout divides the page into one or more sections. A section can contain more than one widget. When a section contains more than one widget, the widgets stack vertically within the section.
Tip: Do not place too many widgets on a page because you might impact performance. The recommended maximum is six widgets. Try to limit the widgets that you put on a page to the ones that are necessary for the purpose of the page.

Procedure

  1. Click Edit Page. The space changes to edit mode and the palette opens.
  2. Optional: If you want to change the layout that the page uses to arrange the widgets:
    1. On the palette, click change layout.
    2. From the list, select the layout that you want for the page. Depending on which layout you select, existing widgets might move to the leftmost section. You can move them to another section in the layout.
Restriction: If you are using product spaces on an iPad, you cannot change the layout of a page.
  3. Optional: Reduce the number of widgets that you see on the palette by doing one of the following actions:
    • Select a widget category from the list. By default, the palette displays all widgets. The palette removes the widgets that are not in the selected category.
    • Type one or more characters into the search filter search filter icon. The palette updates to remove the widgets that do not have these characters in their name or description and updates the number of widgets.
  4. Select a widget and drop it onto the page. When you are dragging the widget, the cursor changes into a preview image of the widget. If the page uses any layout other than the free form layout, you can see a box with a dashed outline when the cursor is in a location where you can drop the widget. If the page is using the free form layout, the page does not display the box and you can drop the widget anywhere on the page.
Tip: You can also click add to page to add the widget to a default section in the layout. You can then drag the widget to another section.
Restriction: If you are using product spaces on an iPad, you cannot drag a widget. Instead, use the add to page button and the Move options in the widget menu.
  5. Some widgets display default content. For other widgets, you must configure them before they can display information that you want. To change the default content or to configure the widget:
    1. Select the widget menu icon widget menu icon and then click Edit Settings.
    2. Make appropriate changes to the widget settings. For example, if you add the Web Site widget onto a page, it displays a default website. You configure the widget to display a different website by editing the settings of the widget to provide the URL for that website. For information about the settings for a widget, open the help for that widget by clicking the widget menu icon and selecting Help.
    3. Click Apply to save your changes.
  6. Click Save to save your changes without leaving edit mode. Click Finish Editing when you have finished adding widgets to the page and you have configured them.
