Widget palette in a space

The widget palette contains the widgets that you can add to a page if you are the owner or editor of the page.

When you select Edit Page, the widget palette opens and displays the widgets that you can add to your page. The widget palette has a toolbar that contains the following tools:
  • The category selector lists the categories and the number of widgets in each category. By default, the palette displays all of the available widgets.
  • The search filter search filter removes from the palette the widgets that do not contain the characters that you typed into the filter somewhere in their name or description. For example, if you type web into the filter, the palette contains only the widgets that have "web" anywhere in their name or description as consecutive characters. Because the filtering action is continuous, as you add characters to the filter, the palette updates.
  • The description area displays a description and an icon or preview image. The area updates whenever you move the cursor to a new widget.
  • The open hidden widgets button opens the area that contains the widgets that are on the page but are not visible.
  • The change layout button opens a list of layouts that you can apply to the page.
  • The Save button saves your changes without closing the palette and leaving the editing mode.
You can drag a widget from the palette onto the page. When you start dragging the widget, the following actions occur:
  1. The preview image of the widget that you are dragging is visible beside the cursor.
  2. When the cursor reaches an area on the page where you can drop the widget, you can see a dashed box showing the potential location of the widget.
In addition to dragging a widget from the palette onto the page, you can use the Add to page buttons. One is with the widget and one is in the description. Clicking either one adds the widget to a default location on the page. From this location, you can drag the new widget to a location that you prefer.
Restriction: If you are using product spaces on an iPad, you cannot drag a widget. Instead, use the Add to page button and the Move options in the widget menu.
